Catholic Social Teaching
Catholic Social Teaching at Our School
At St Joseph’s, Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is at the heart of our mission to help every child grow in faith, compassion, and understanding. CST offers a set of guiding principles that help us live out the Gospel in our daily lives, and we explore these values together throughout the year.
Learning More About a Particular Principle Each Half Term
Every half-term, the whole school focuses on one key principle of Catholic Social Teaching. These include themes such as Human Dignity, Solidarity, The Common Good, and Care for Creation. Children learn about the principle through:
- Class lessons and discussions
- Assemblies
- Scripture and stories
- Real‑life examples and current events
- A range of activities that help them apply the principle in their own lives
This whole‑school focus helps our pupils understand how their faith calls them to act with kindness, justice, and respect.
Visits from Our Parish Priests
Throughout the year, our parish priests visit classes to speak with the children about what they have been learning. These visits give pupils the chance to share their ideas, ask questions, and deepen their understanding of how Catholic Social Teaching shapes the way we live as a community.
KS1 and KS2 Assemblies
Each half-term, we hold special assemblies for both KS1 and KS2. These gatherings allow us to come together in prayer, reflection, and celebration. Children present what they have learned, share examples of how they have lived out the principle, and inspire one another to put faith into action.
Special Projects
To bring each principle to life, every child completes a special project linked to the theme of the term. These projects might include artwork, writing, drama, research, or community‑focused activities. They help children express their learning creatively and understand how Catholic Social Teaching can make a real difference in the world.
